Calames is the French catalogue of archives and manuscripts held by University and Academic Libraries, but also by large national institutions (Institut de France, Natural History Museum...) and several research libraries (Literature Library Jacques Doucet, libraries of learned societies...). Calames is provided by ABES (Agence bibliographique de l'Enseignement Supérieur). It is both a shared public catalogue and a shared cataloging environment for the creation and edition of finding aids. Not only it gives access to records encoded from two earlier printed sources (General Catalogue of Manuscripts of the public libraries of France, and "Palme", the National Directory of French literary manuscripts of the XXth century) but it is a living catalog, which is and will be expanded with new acquisitions and the descriptive work carried out by libraries.
To see the current number of records harvested in the CERL Portal from this OAI-harvested database, select the database and write 'manuscript:true' in any of the search boxes and press Search: the current number of records will be returned.
